Randy Moss Calls It Quits
Not a surprise. There was no market for Moss and it was painfully obvious at the tail end of last season that he had lost his speed and burst and that he couldn’t separate or stack a corner over the top anymore. Moss was the ultimate big play receiver but he won’t be remembered for being a quality route runner who can get open. His game was predicated on separating at the line of scrimmage and beating the safety to a deep ball over the top. We’ll miss his antics and his flair for the dramatic but it was time for Randy to walk. It’s too bad that he couldn’t win a super bowl ring. Moss is a first ballot hall of famer and he’ll be in the hallowed halls of Canton in August of 2016.

Matt Light Agrees to a Two year Deal to Stay in New England
Matt Light signed a two year deal to remain with the Patriots. Terms of the deal were not released but you have to figure that he took a home town discount because quite frankly there wasn’t much of a market for him. If the Patriots were smart, they would move him to right tackle but they won’t! Afterall, who I am to question the great Bill Belichick and Dante Scarnecchia. Light can’t handle pure one move speed rushers and he struggles with bull rushers who can drop their hips and drive him back. I do however think he can be effective as a right tackle because he’s still a good run blocker and he can get help from a tight end or wing  in pass pro versus a speed rusher. Re-signing Light was a good move because he is team guy and a quality locker room presence but to think he’s still an elite left tackle would be a mistake.

Antonio Cromartie Re-Signs with Jets

The Jets re-signed Antonio Cromartie to a four year, 32 million contract. Good move in my book. Nnamdi Asomugha was not a good fit for the Jets because of Rex Ryan penchant for blitzing and playing man coverage. Cromartie is a better fit because he’s better in man to man and he can lock down an opposing team’s biggest receiver. It’s not just physical with Cromartie, he showed tremendous maturity last season until the playoffs when he opened his yapper and called Tom Brady an “a-hole”. Aside from that, he put it all together and played up to his potential. The Jets were smart to keep this team together. You don’t get to two AFC Championship games by accident. You do it with talent and coaching. I know people will say they snuck in two years ago but who cares. They made it count once they got there!
