“Without a Curse” Episode 512: “The Boston Herald’s Scott Lauber Talks ‘Toxic Clubhouse,’ Youkilis, And More” (6/25/12)

by Alex Reimer | Posted on Tuesday, June 26th, 2012

Hosted by: Alex Reimer

Alex speaks with Scott Lauber, Red Sox reporter for The Boston Herald. Alex and Scott begin their conversation by speculating on the severity of Clay Buchholz’s illness, and how much time he may have to miss. In a related topic, Alex asks Scott about a distrust that may exist between the Red Sox players and medical staff.

Alex and Scott also talk about Kevin Youkilis’ final days with the Red Sox, and if they could have been handled better by Bobby Valentine. Speaking of Valentine, how is his relationship with players and the coaching staff? Given the way he was hired, was this fractured environment inevitable?

Daniel Bard’s decision to move back to the bullpen is talked about too, as Alex and Scott forecast the bullpen’s performance in the second half of the season.

Alex recaps the weekend series against the Braves, where the Red Sox took 2 of 3 games. Though it was arguably the most chaotic week off the field the Red Sox have had all year, it was their most successful week on the field. Alex also gives a brief retrospective on Youkilis’ Red Sox career, and states his opinion on the trade with the White Sox.

In the “Around the League” segment, Alex briefly talks about the AL East standings and various notes from the weekend in baseball.
